The Chicest Hair for Every Bride
The Bridal Blowout is one of the chicest hairstyles of the 2023 wedding season. It’s giving VS bombshell energy and old-money chic at the same time. Blowouts give big, sexy volume that gets better as the night goes on, making it the perfect, timeless hairstyle for every bride and her bridal party, no matter your hair length or hair type.
Brides are expected to look like goddesses not only on their wedding day but for their engagement party, engagement photos, bridal shower, bachelorette party, welcome party, rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and reception. This can be super overwhelming, but we’re here to let you know that it doesn’t have to be! I want to teach you how to achieve great hair so you feel excited about your events rather than overwhelmed. Your hair is your most important accessory, so understanding how to style your hair can give you confidence like never before. The Bridal Blowout is the most important wedding hairstyle to master for your special day and, once it becomes second nature, for every day!
What is the Bridal Blowout?
The Bridal Blowout is the best blowout you’ll ever have. After shampooing, conditioning, and treating the hair, we blow dry the hair until it’s just damp. Then, using a round brush, we section off the hair and roll it into the brush while using the blow dryer to heat, dry, and smooth the hair. We can use rollers to let the hair set as it cools for extra volume, curl, and hold. The result is soft, bouncy curls with lots of volume at the roots. The hair has movement and life that looks beautiful in real life and in photos. With extra care and attention, your blowout will last a few days.
The Experts Know Best
If you’ve never had a blowout before, it can be helpful to get a blowout at your favorite salon so you have an understanding of what a good blowout should look and feel like. You don’t even have to wait for your cut or color. At Studio One Salon in Hockessin, DE, you can schedule a blowout to refresh your hair. Like getting a facial, it’s an amazing opportunity to pamper and treat yourself and learn what products and techniques will give you salon-like results at home.
Our Studio One Salon stylists know blowouts like nobody’s business. We’ve done hundreds. We know how to keep your hair looking light and bouncy, how to smooth your hair so it doesn’t frizz, and how to keep your hair from falling limp a few hours later. The Bridal Blowout is an art, and we have perfected it.
The salon blowout is fantastic for once-in-a-lifetime celebrations like your wedding, but it’s also perfect for more intimate celebrations. If you have a dinner or a party on your calendar, scheduling a blowout at your salon the morning before the event only takes up a small amount of time and can set the tone for the rest of the day. It’s amazing how something as small as doing your hair can make you feel so special. You deserve to make all of these little moments feel like special moments worth celebrating, worth putting in a little extra effort. That is what life is all about.
Knowledge is Power
We understand that you can’t always pop into the salon for a blowout. That’s why we think it’s important you feel empowered to execute an amazing blowout by yourself at home or when you’re traveling. The best way to learn a new skill is directly, so if you have the opportunity to go to your favorite local salon and get a blowout, that is always the first option I would recommend. Not only does it come with expert advice, you’ll also have the ability to ask questions that are specific to your hair, purchase the products you’ll need right then and there at the salon, and you’ll get the bonus of seeing the results for yourself.
The next best option is YouTube and TikTok. There are so many free videos available for everyone to use that you can watch as many times as you want. These videos are great for helping to understand the technique, especially since you can watch the videos and pause as you’re doing your own hair. The downside to this is that they’re not always specific to your hair type. For this reason, I would still recommend buying products based on recommendations from your own hairstylist or you can always send us a DM on Instagram for hair product advice.
Finally, practice makes perfect. Your blowouts will get better the more you do them. Trust me, I’ve learned from experience! Luckily there are tools out there that make it easier to give yourself a blowout if you’re not as dextrous with your hands.
Only as Good as Your Tools
The traditional blowout is done using a round brush and blow dryer, but there are so many options that make it a little bit easier to do it yourself.
The Round Brush and Dryer
Round brushes come in all sizes and materials. You can find affordable round brushes on Amazon or Target, but you can also find gorgeous boar bristle brushes for ultimate luxury. My favorite round brush is by Olivia Garden. They come in both big and medium. These brushes help to distribute the natural oils of the hair and make the hair look so smooth. It’ll be a brush you’ll keep forever.
As for dryers, it completely depends on how much you are using your dryer. If you regularly blow-dry your hair or hope to give yourself more frequent blowouts at home, you’ll want to spend a little more and invest in a great dryer. The Dyson dryer is light, cordless, and quiet. It won’t weigh down your arm or get tangled as you’re styling your hair. It also comes with a diffuser attachment and concentrator attachment, perfect for blowouts.
Other popular hairdryers include the GHD and _____. For a more affordable option, the Conair Infiniti Pro is reliable and quite high-end for such a good price. It would be great if you only use a blowdryer occasionally, want a spare blowdryer to keep in your guest room, or you forgot your blowdryer and need to pick something up asap! If you find yourself traveling internationally frequently, make sure you get a dual-voltage blow dryer to make travel easier.
The round brush and dryer allow the stylist’s technique to shine through without relying heavily on the tool to do all of the work. This technique has the steepest learning curve, but once mastered, it gives you the most control.
The Dyson Airwrap and Shark FlexStyle
This is quickly becoming the gold standard of blowout tools. In fact, I would argue that this tool is the reason the blowout has made such a prominent appearance in the last year. As suggested by the price, this is a luxury item, but it is the best of the best. Rather than using the Dyson or Shark on dry hair like a curling wand, I would suggest starting on damp hair. You can use the Dyson to roughly blow dry your hair and smooth down all of the flyaways for a glossy finish. Then, you can choose between the round brush or the curling wand. Both use air to heat and dry the hair as they wrap the hair, then you can blast the hair with cool air to set the curls. The lower heat is more gentle than a curling iron, and the 2-in-1 device makes it easier to hold than a round brush and blow dryer.
The Round Brush Dryer
If you struggle with the round brush and blow dryer technique and you don’t want to splurge on the Dyson, the Revlon round brush blow dryer is an affordable alternative. This is also amazing if you want to test out a round brush blow dryer before purchasing the Dyson or Shark. Unlike the Dyson, this tool doesn’t come with exchangeable attachments. It’s just the round brush. However, it’s so convenient and gives a great blowout for every day.
Rollers
Rollers are changing the blowout game. Think of them as the frosting on the cake or the cherry on top. After blowing out a section of your hair, while it’s still hot, you would wrap the hair in a roller and secure it to your head. Repeat this with each section of hair. Once all of the hair cools, it will have set enough to have longer staying power and more prominent, bouncy curls. You don’t have to worry about your hair falling out when using this technique. If you’re doing a Bridal Blowout for your big day, the rollers are a step you cannot skip!
Products You Absolutely Need
The first step to a Bridal Blowout is using a shampoo and conditioner to prep the hair. I love the Authentic Beauty Concept Amplify Shampoo and Conditioner to add volume to the hair before even styling, especially if you have thin hair. Starting with freshly washed hair will help the blowout last as long as possible and keep it looking fresh, clean, voluminous, and healthy. After cleansing, gently towel dry the hair. Then, use a Wet Brush to brush out any tangles starting from the ends of the hair and working your way up.
Next, you’ll need a heat protectant. This is non-negotiable when using any source of heat on the hair. I love using the Color Wow Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer because it’s both a volumizer and a heat protectant, so it’s really a workhorse product that does the most for your hair. The volume this gives you is insane, lasts for days, and it doesn’t dry out your hair. Finally, we use a finishing spray to add shine and keep frizz at bay. A few pumps of the O&M Frizzy Logic Finishing Shine Spray will keep your hair looking photo-ready from day to night.
