2023 is not playing when it comes to bridal hair. Bridal standards are higher than ever, and we're so here for it. Women understand that wedding photos are forever, so it's important to make sure your wedding day hair is the best it's ever been and book the stylist that can make your hair dreams come true. Nothing is off-limits. We're talking about a different bridal hairstyle for every dress, taking risks, having fun, and making it your moment.
Choosing Your Bridal Hairstyle
The Venue
Your venue will dictate the vibe of your entire wedding look. A wedding on Lake Como will be elegant and sophisticated. A wedding on a ranch in Montana might be a little more boho and romantic. A wedding in Tulum might be more undone and beachy. Along with the venue, the time of year will make a difference in your hair. If you have naturally curly hair that gets frizzy in the humidity or straight hair that falls limp, you’ll want to take that into consideration when selecting a hairstyle if you’ll be on a hot beach all day.
The Dress
Once you choose your venue, you’ll probably find a dress that fits with the location. Once you find the dress, you’ll have a better idea of what hairstyle complements your dress. For example, you could easily wear a low bun with any style of dress, but the details make the difference. If you’re wearing a romantic, lacey wedding dress, you might opt for a more romantic bun with soft curls framing your face. If you’ve got a more modern silk slip dress or a regal gown, you might want a simpler sleek bun.
The Stylist
Who does your hair on your wedding day can determine what hairstyle you wear. If you’re doing your hair yourself, definitely do some trials to see what hairstyle you can accomplish. You don’t want to be stressed on the day of your wedding because your hair takes two hours. If possible, hiring a hairstylist for your wedding can make a huge difference in making your day go seamlessly. Stylists have tools, products, and experience to give you beautiful hair that lasts throughout the entire event. Your bridesmaids are sure to appreciate the extra pampering, too. To make sure you’re on the same page as your stylist, do a wedding hair trial before the actual wedding day. You can try more than one hairstyle, wear it, and make adjustments so you know exactly what you want on your wedding day.
The Bridal Blowout
The blowout is the most classic wedding hairstyle, and it will remain forever timeless. But in 2023, we're a little more extra. The bridal blowout is at its best when you pair it with a super layered haircut. Round layers and curtain bangs make the soft curls dramatic and voluminous. Our technology and techniques have improved to give lasting hold. Better hair dryers, round brushes, the Dyson Airwrap, hair rollers, and products keep your blowout lasting all night.
Slicked Back Bun
The wedding of the season was without a doubt Sofia Richie’s French affair. The key to her perfect ballerina bun is a perfect middle part. They added extensions to conceal the layers in Sofia’s hair, secured the braided bun, and used a strong-hold hairspray to keep the flyaways at bay. The final look? Tres chic!
We see the same slicked-back bun adorned in our own backyard. Naomi Biden’s wedding at The White House is the closest thing Americans will get to a royal wedding. Naomi is classic in her Grace Kelly-inspired gown. Her hair is paired back and sleek, and her veil does all the talking. Further proof that no matter the dress, a low bun can complement any bridal look.
The Party Pony
One of my favorite hairstyle trends of 2023 is seeing the hair change from day to night when the bride does her dress change. It just makes sense! You’ll be dancing and having a great time, and the last thing you’ll want to be thinking about is your bun falling out or your long hair getting sweaty. The party pony is the perfect solution.
Sofia Richie strikes again with a reception look that might even top her ceremony ensemble. Sofia’s pony still has a middle part and is super sleek to give a lifted effect to the face. They added volume and texture to the ponytail and used a mix of gel and oil to give the hair a wet look.
Half-Up, Half-Down & Loose Waves
Taylor Hill’s wedding was undoubtedly the most romantic of the season, and her hairstyle was equally as breathtaking. Her hair was prepped with a mousse followed by a blowout. Her stylist added hair extensions to add volume, not length. Then they created loose curls with a one-inch curling iron and finished with hairspray before pinning her hair half-up and half-down with short pieces framing her face. It paired perfectly with her dramatic veil.
Bohemian Braids
A braided halo is equal parts playful and romantic. A braided hairstyle is stunning for a wedding in the country, a welcome party, or a reception. The photographs will not disappoint. You don’t need long hair to pull off this look. Brides with short hair or medium-length hair can always add hair extensions to give length and volume to their braids. With the right products (and hairstylist), your hair will last as long as you want. Play around with different types of braids for an even more unique look— try a Dutch, French, rope, or fishtail braid… the options are endless!
Glam Waves
Glam waves has been the go-to wedding hair for years now. Glam waves involve curling the hair into tight curls facing the same direction and brushing them out until they become soft S-waves. It’s beautiful on medium length hair
Beach Waves
Beach waves are gorgeous for casual weddings and beach weddings alike. It’s important that bride hairstyles fit the venue. Sometimes, that means embracing your natural hair’s texture so that your hair gets better as the night goes on. Messy curls with lots of texture always look effortless and cool. They work on any hair length and add lots of volume to thin hair. This hairstyle is especially perfect for the welcome party and reception.
Bridal Hair 2023
Bridal hair 2023 will continue to evolve with the latest trends and styles that cater to brides of all preferences and hair types. From soft curls to a braided bun, there's a wedding hairstyle that fits any bridal look. Whether you accessorize your hair with a hair comb or use hair accessories to add some sparkle, make sure your wedding hairstyle complements your bridal look so that you can feel confident and beautiful on your special day.
